The reigning Miss Universe, Catriona Gray, recently travelled to South Africa to judge the Miss South Africa competition that took place on National South African Women’s Day, the 9th of August.
Not only was this Catriona’s first trip to South Africa, but also to the African continent. The exclusive Mountain View Boutique Lodge at Legend Golf & Safari Resort had the honour of hosting The Miss Universe Team for Catriona’s very first safari experience where they saw an array of wildlife including the King of the Jungle. During their short stay at the “Home of the Extreme 19th “ , Legend Golf & Safari Resort on 10 – 11 August, they also made time to visit Legend’s non-profit organization, The Rhino Orphanage.
The Rhino Orphanage is a registered non-profit company based in the Limpopo Province andwas founded by Arrie van Deventer & Peet Cilliers in 2012. The orphanage is the first specialist, dedicated centre that cared for orphaned and injured baby rhinos with the only aim of releasing them back into the wild. It was created as the result of a lack of a specialized place for rearing baby rhinos who have been orphaned as a consequence of the current poaching crisis which feeds the illegal trade in horns.
In keeping with the strong theme of Women’s Day the Miss Universe team were amazed to learn that that The Rhino Orphanage has an all women volunteer team who dedicate their time towards these orphaned baby rhinos. Coincidentally the game ranger who guided them through the 22 000 hectare Big Five Reserve of Entabeni Safari Conservancy on an open safari vehicle, was also one of Entabeni’s star female rangers.
The weekend evolved around making Catriona’s first African experience a memorable one with Proudly South African gifts, customs & dining. Legend Golf & Safari Resort as well as Entabeni Safari Conservancy are two flagship properties of the Legend Hospitality Grouplocated in the Limpopo Province’s Waterberg Region and have hosted an array of celebrities. The likes of Morgan Freeman, Lewis Hamilton and a list of international pro golf players such as Gary Player, KJ Choi, Bernhard Langer & Padraig Harrington have experienced an authentic golf & safari experience with Legend.
Legend Hospitality Group is thrilled to add the stunning Catriona Gray to the list of celebrities who have visited Legend.
